An excellent introduction to linocut printmaking with printmaker Amelia Hemmings. If you have previous experience this is an opportunity to develop your skills further.

During the two-day course you will learn how to plan, carve and print a colour linocut using two or more blocks. Amelia will show you how to carve interesting marks, mix and layer colours, create a registration template, make a colour blend and much more.

Linocut is a printmaking technique which can easily be practised at home.  Although the basic principles of linocut are easy to learn, there are several things the beginner needs to know to produce successful prints.

In this course you will learn:

  • About lino printing tools and materials
  • How to plan your image and transfer it to the lino block
  • How to safely use a range of cutting tools to create a range of marks
  • How to ink the block correctly
  • How to print by hand (with a wood spoon and a baren) and with a printing press
  • Planning a multiblock design and working in layers

By the end of the course, you will have a small edition of your print (6” x 4” image) to take home and the knowledge and skills to continue making linocuts at home.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some previous experience. Maximum class size is 8 people.
